ABSTRACT

Background: Supernumerary teeth refers to an excessivenumber of teeth. Supernumerary teeth are usually detectedaccidentally during routine radiographic examination or whennormal tooth eruption is delayed or fails. The objective of thestudy is to investigate the prevalence and their distribution.Materials and Methods: In this study, 22652 patients wereevaluated in the out-patient department of Darbhanga MedicalCollege, Darbhanga, Bihar, for supernumerary teeth during theperiod of December 2016 to September 2018.Results: In this study we found that Twenty one males (0.09%)and eighteen females (0.08) supernumerary teeth among22652 patient. According to location wise distribution they werefound twenty seven in anterior region (0.12%), seven in molarregion, three impacted (0.01%), two in premolar region (0.01%)and one in canine region (0.00%).Conclusion: The study shows 0.172 prevalence among thepopulation and supernumerary teeth were more predominant inmale as compared to female and their distributions.
